About the College of Marin Makerspace
COM’s Makerspace is an interdisciplinary, cross-sector digital design and fabrication lab accessible to all students, faculty, and staff.
With high tech equipment and traditional tools, the space promotes exploration and participation through hands-on workshops, new courses and programs. The Makerspace allows COM classes to offer advanced project-based learning. Students gain relevant experience — developing critical thinking skills in a team-based, supportive, learning environment.
Creating an “maker” culture, as part of a larger network of makers, will create pathways that will lead COM students into the strong workforce; skilled, well-paid, and socially aware, they will be adaptive and flexible, prepared for the challenges of the 21st century.
COM’s Makerspace provides our students with cutting edge, state-of-the-art immersion, with tools and training for the modern workforce. We are committed to offering an experiential learning environment in industry-standard skills to all students, many of which would not have access to digital technologies, equipment, and tools.
The Maker Initiative is a network of California Community College (CCC) makerspaces, nurturing a maker culture and incorporating innovation and entrepreneurship into education. CCC Makerspaces are creating and sharing a model to fuel job creation and strengthen regional economies.
